Series 4 - Chakre Trees – The trees in this series represent our human body depicting our various chakres or energy centres. Chakres are like complex wheels of energy each vibrating and radiating a quality of power that helps support and enhance our physical, emotional and spiritual selves. Traditionally the chakres have been given specific colours but there is no hard and fast rule as colours tend to overlap just as the energy centres themselves do not stand-alone but are linked together. When a chakre is unbalanced the energy is unable to radiate and flow and over time these blockages can have detrimental physical and emotional effects on our body.

The Tree of Self – this painting of the tree represents the flow of the energy centres in our own human bodies, from the base that includes the root, sacral and solar plexus chakres to the upper part of the tree that shows the heart, throat, third eye , om and crown chakres..
The swirling rainbow colours surrounding the tree represent the aura of radiance that connects us to the earth and universe. |
 |
Root Chakre Tree – Represents the earth element and the colour red that is associated with the first energy centre at the base of our spine, the adrenal glands and organs of elimination.
The root is the place of birth and rebirth or gateway to life and death. As our survival centre it provides the ability to draw abundance from the earth’s plane. Its flow of energy represents physical energy, willpower and courage however if the energy is unbalanced a person will express domination, rigidity, anger and resentment.
The colour red energizes, gives confidence and courage.
The painting illustrates the beauty and abundance of the tree above ground but equally what lies below the ground provides the strength , support and safety for the survival of the tree. Like the tree, as human beings we have a spiritual self (our soul) that is radiant and abundant and equally we have our physical and emotional self that supports our journey on this earth. |
 |
Sacral Chakre Tree-Represents the water element and the colour orange is associated with the second energy centre located in the lower abdomen and affects the sexual organs. First impressions and old emotional pictures are stored in this centre. It is the centre of our sexuality and creativity and if unbalanced a person may express confusion, pessimism, manipulation and guilt.
Orange is a stimulating colour that broadens the mind and lifts energy levels. |
 |
The Solar Plexus Tree – Represents the combined elements of fire, air and ether and is associated with the third energy centre located at the solar plexus in the navel area of the body and corresponds with the pancreas and liver organs. Although it has traditionally been associated with the colour yellow this painting includes the colours of the sun incorporating shades of rose red, orange, gold, yellow and bronze.
This centre has often been referred to as “our gut feeling” and is our power centre of inner knowing that flows directly into the heart centre. It is the connection to our intuition and that subtle, heavenly energy beyond our earth that is referred to as the ether element.
Like the colour of the sun, yellow and gold colours have an energising effect that stimulate the intellect and help heal the nervous system, liver and pancreas.
If we connect openly with our inner knowing it is the gateway to our true self and our purpose here on earth but if our energy centre is blocked the person will express anger, greed and controlling types of behaviour. |
 |
The Heart Chakre Tree – Represents the elements of air and ether and is associated with the fourth energy centre located at the heart behind the breastbone (sternum) and thymus gland.
The colour green and the secondary colour of rose pink are connected with the heart energy and have a soothing and relaxing effect on the body. Green and rose colours help to heal the heart and overcome feelings of jealousy, insecurity, fear of giving, sharing and adaptability. Heartache and heartbreak(including physical heart conditions)are outcomes of a society that lacks compassion and empathy. Most of us need heart and emotional healing.
The heart energy rises up through the root, sacral and solar plexus chakres and is the connection to our true feelings and emotions that are free from our learned responses and conditioning. It is about feeling compassion, letting go of our fears, trusting and unconditionally loving ourselves and other people for what they are. It is the pathway to balance, wholeness and happiness. |
 |
Throat Chakre Tree - The colour blue is associated with the fifth energy centre located at the throat and connected to the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Its flow of energy represents communication and influences creativity, inspiration, peace, relaxation and trust however if it is blocked emotions of denial, distrust, apathy or abruptness are expressed.
If our throat chakre is clear and balanced we are able to speak and express our “truth” with compassion and understanding, however in a world where “speaking out” places us at risk of judgement and reprisal most people’s throat centres are in need of healing. |
 |
Third Eye Chakre – The colour indigo and violet can be associated with the sixth energy centre located between and slightly above the eyes on the lower part of the forehead and connected to the pituitary gland.
Its flow of energy influences spiritual perception, intuition, and tolerance. It is our link to the universe and our eternal, spiritual self however if the energy is blocked the person may express feelings of depression, confusion, doubt or suspicion . |
 |
“Om” Chakre Tree- The colours of magenta, pale blue, violet and gold are associated with this energy centre located between the third eye and the crown chakre. The “Om” chakre tree represents a new energy centre that relates to our purpose for living on this earth and the contractual agreements that are made with our spiritual self and others to further our growth into wholeness within our human physical and emotional body. As we are tested we fund the power to avert blockage and develop in ourselves an aversion to the conduct that creates stress in our lives. It gives us the ability to use perseverance and foresight, to set our house in order, identify where growth has been stunted and what must be exposed and examined and relinquished to free ourselves from deep behavioural patterns and habits. If this energy centre is balanced we can wait on the will of heaven with humility and grace instead of acting needy or lusting after desired outcomes. |
 |
Crown Chakre Tree – This tree represents the colours of gold, bronze, silver and platinum of the crown chakre located at the top of the head and connected to the pineal gland. While these colours differ from the traditional violet colour that is often associated with the crown chakre there is no right or wrong associated with the colour of this energy centre as it is people’s connection with their own spirituality and the source of universal wisdom. As we experience a balance of energy and feeling of wholeness each of us is a channel through which Divine wisdom flows providing sensitivity to our inner guidance.
Life can be hard and difficult and we are not always clear, as channels of energy become blocked by fears, misunderstandings and self-doubt.
These chakre trees have been painted to provide a prompt for us to get in touch with our knowing and loving selves and as we connect with our true self so we can heal ourselves. |

The Gift of the Self
“There are no more maps
No more creeds
No more philosophies.
From here on in the directions
Come straight from the Divine.
The curriculum is being revealed
Millisecond by millisecond
Invisibly, intuitively, spontaneously, lovingly.
As one of Thomas Moreton’s monks has it
“Go into your cell and your cell will teach
you everything there is to know”
Your cell
Yourself”
